Lafrowda Festival 2022 – Statement January 2022
With plenty of deliberation the Lafrowda Festival charity trustees and the organising committee have decided to not go ahead with the festival this year. It’s understandably disappointing news for the team and for the St Just community. The committee have been working hard planning for the event since reforming in September 2021 but with a few difficult years for us all due to the covid pandemic, ongoing uncertainties regarding finance and unfilled committee roles it was felt that to safeguard the future of the festival it is best to put our time and energy into achieving a great come back event in 2023.
This year we will be focussed on fundraising for Lafrowda 2023 with some wonderful engaging and fun events already planned. Keep an eye on the Lafrowda website and social media for more information over the coming weeks! Lafrowda Festival relies on the support from the community both in volunteering to help organise the event and also in donations. If you are unable to commit to helping organise the event and want to support then please consider a donation to the ‘gofundme’ Crowdfunder at https://gofund.me/503dc6cb. The funds raised before the festival give us the confidence and ability to achieve a great event for the community. The organising committee is purely voluntary and all the funds go directly towards the costs of the festivals activities.
On another positive note, this decision means that we now have the time to fill the gaps in the committee and to have a strong team with manageable roles making it viable to deliver the event safely for many more years. This also gives us time to secure funding, sponsorship, and support for Lafrowda Festival in 2023.
This is where you can help!
Come and join the organising committee! Whether you have the skills and experience or not we welcome people from all parts of the community to come and participate with organising the event. Could you help manage an aspect of the festival or be part of a team making the arrangements to deliver activities? The commitment would be to attend regular committee meetings and to help achieve the aspect of the festival you are involved in. Over the year this works out to be a couple of hours a week and a little more during the festival. There is a great sense of pride and enjoyment to be gained by being part of the team organising such a wonderful festival for our community. Here are the roles still needing to be filled:
Treasurer
Fundraisers and fundraising events
Schools engagement coordinators
Parades/workshops coordinators
Kids activities/workshops coordinators
Market traders team
Volunteer management team
Safeguarding/lost children team
